Radiator Upgrade

Full Disclosure – This is just our own process. What you do with this information is up to you and you are responsible for your own actions.

Why?

1961 to early 1968 with the MEL 430/462 engines came with a unique expansion tank. Unfortunately, this tank has a tendency to leak over time at the seams or at the engine block connection. A typical symptom is coolant at the back of the engine.

Solution and Benefits:

The Lincoln community has found some solutions such as 1993 Mustang radiator (credit to Pat Teahan) or a 1970 Lincoln radiator (credit to Oscar Ramos). However, we have found our own solution. Beginning in late 1968, Lincoln changed over the 460 engine and installed a new bigger radiator with a radiator cap on the driver side. This also got rid of the expansion tank. For us, it’s the perfect fit as its the biggest radiator of the 3 in this discussion as well as allow us to keep the stock lower radiator hose.
